Organisational Setting and Reporting

The translator/interpreter will work in the framework of DDF baseline study/project of AHRRAO. DDF baseline study is going to be conducted in Balkh and Samangan provinces. The baseline study will provide a clear understanding of the DDF project target districts’ situation in order to facilitate swift implementation of the DDF program implementation in the coming future. Thus, the study requires high quality data transfer from the ground to analysis level which mostly depends on translation and interpretation during the initial and data analyzing workshops. The translator/interpreter is directly reporting to AHRRAO project manager and is responsible to interoperate English to Dari and Dari to English during the workshops and as well as translate interview forms, village, CDC and CLDC profiles filed in in Dari by research team.

Responsibilities

Within the program framework English-Dari translator/interpreter will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Advises the AHRRAO management and project team on all issues related to English translation and interpretation during the workshops and fieldworks;
  • Plans activities of the translation according to the project plan;
  • Ensures that deadlines are met for English translation and editing, in consultation and coordination with AHRRAO project team;
  • Ensures that that all English translated from are provided within the specified deadlines, quality, clear, concise, edited documents in conformity with AHRRAO standards;
  • Promotes teamwork and communication among staff members of the project;
  • Revises translations on a better and more professional way if there was any comment and feedback from AHRRAO clients;
  • Translates without revision highly specialized or urgent texts;
  • Carries out linguistic research and contributes to the building of terminology databases;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge of a broad range of subjects dealt with by AHRRAO, e.x. social, legal, economic, financial, development, administrative, and conflict related issues. Ability to use all sources of references, consultation and information relevant to text at hand. Ability to work under pressure and maintain adequate speed and volume of output. Education

Degree from a university or from an institution of equivalent status required.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of experience in translation and interpretation including one year of experience in translating or editing Dari to English is required.

Languages

A perfect command of English, an excellent knowledge of Pashtu, and knowledge of another official language of Afghanistan are required.
