Election and Women Political Participation

Afghan Human Rights Research and Advocacy Organization has conducted Election and Women Political Participation dialogue in Mazar-e-Sharif on June 10, 2018. The dialogues was concentrating particularly on the upcoming parliamentary election and women’s qualitative and quantitative participation.
Dialogue’s participants were about 150 women rights activists, political parties, parliamentary election candidates and civil society organizations.
Dialogue run between 4 young women candidates from Balkh, Jawzjan and Samangan provinces.
The aim of the dialogue was to open more space for women to actively participate in political process by presenting their ideas, run dialogues to draw attention of citizens on what women can do or should do for better of Afghanistan in the future.
Dialogue started by presentation of ideas and programs of the candidates on women rights, Afghanistan legislation and women rights, rule of women in governance and related issues with women rights situation. Following the presentation, participants asked their question regarding what elected women can or should do in the new parliament of Afghanistan in order to improve the women rights situation in the fields of social, economic, cultural, civil and political rights.
AHRRAO assessment of the dialogue confirmed that this dialogue helped participated candidates to improve their programs during the election process and as well as provided a better view for them to make more concrete vision for their future social and political activities.
